Founded in 1984 by

Arthur Capon

The Northampton Area Triples Bowls League was formed in 1984 with just six local flat green bowling clubs, Northampton County Ground, Northampton West End, Express Lifts, Manns, St. Crispin Hospital and Whyte Melville. The league was very much due to the efforts of the late Arthur Capon who served as Secretary until 1994 when he was succeeded by Ken Woodward.

The league now consists of four divisions with thirty two teams drawn from clubs in and around Northamptonshire:
Abington, Brackley, Byfield, Bugbrooke, Carlsberg, Cogenhoe, Cold Ashby, Daventry Tigers, Daventry Town, Desborough, Earls Barton, Harpole, Heyford, Kislingbury, Kingsthorpe, Northampton County Ground, Northampton Express, Northampton West End, Roade, St. Crispin, West Haddon, Whyte Melville, and Wootton.

The league supports the popular format of triples play.  Each team meets each other team in their division home and away.

Each winning triple scores one point, and the team scoring the highest total shots receives a further two points.
Maximum of six points per match.

Teams are accordingly promoted or relegated at the end of each strongly competitive season.

There is also a knockout competition played throughout the season sponsored by Middleton Wholesale.
